Ponds wood
The ancient woodland in St Leonard's, East Sussex, called Ponds Wood is a Local Nature Reserve which is in public ownership. Apart from the wide variety of trees and wild flowers, it supports abundant wild life.
Squirrels, foxes and badgers and many species of birds make their home in the wood. The Hollington stream runs through the wood and the occasional waterfowl can be seen in the pond. Local people of all ages also enjoy this quiet green oasis in an otherwise built up setting.
The Group consists of mainly local people who wanted to do something practical to ensure that Ponds Wood is looked after for future generations. You don’t need any skills or special fitness levels. There are people of all ages and abilities in this very sociable group. We supply the tools and you supply the enthusiasm. We normally mange to provide refreshments. The events are free of charge to all contributors.

This voluntary group was founded in 1992, and meets on a roughly monthly basis on Saturday mornings at 10am, for a few hours. We meet just inside the woods from the Gillsman’s Hill entrance. We carry out work to help maintain footpaths and ditches, the pond and stream. We also carry out work on fallen trees. We hope the work we do enables users to have a pleasant experience when using the woods. The woods form part of a local nature reserve and the group is supported by Hastings Borough Council. We are always looking for new members to join our friendly group so please take a look at our web site. Please contact us via the CONTACT page.
